Back on track

Today started in the best ways possible: the sun is out, the snow that i had to clean off my car was that easy granular stuff that takes to seconds to clear, and I stepped on the scale at weigh-in to be greeted with a 2.2 loss. That was a great feeling, to see it moving in the good direction again.

Something happens on Wednesday that fills me with 90% excitement and 10% yikes: I am putting roller skates back on my feet for the first time since my ankle started falling apart again in 2010. I don't expect it to be easy, and I certainly don't expect any degree of grace to be involved. One of my very best friends and I are taking Roller Skating Basics class the city puts on in a local rec centre, and at the very least, it will be a fucking RIOT.

One of my big personal goals this year is (should my leg not hold me back) was to start getting myself into a good enough skating zone that I can volunteer to ref with my beloved Forest City Derby Girls. I've been wanting to do this FOR. EVER. They're such amazing women who kick so much ass, I need to be a part of it. I love those girls, who are truly awesome people on and off skates, and I want to do whatever I can to support them.

I've been dying to be on skates since 2006, but 3 ankle surgeries have kind of gotten in the way of that. Now, with the completely fused frankenankle, I'm willing to give skating a shot and see if it's do-able. there could be a physical limitation due to ol' Frank, but I'll regret it forever if I don't at least try.

If it works out, I will finally get to do the only exercise/activity that I really want to do: roller skating my motherfucking ass off.

So, here we go, 2012, let's see what we can do to ditch even more of this lard!

On a roll, for a change

I'm on a total roll today, so I figured I'd stop by for a minute or two.

Not much to report in the lard ditching department. I could be frustrated by this, but I'm choosing otherwise. If I get frustrated, I'll get discouraged and defeatist and that just sucks. I'll put more of an effort into it and we shall see what happens.

This year has started out pretty well. I've made some decisions about certain personal goals I'd like to reach this year, and wonder of wonder miracle of miracles, I've actually taken steps to make them happen.

The biggest one so far is the decision to try and put wheels back on my feet now that I'm almost 2 years out from my ankle fusion surgery. One of my best friends and I are taking the intro course put on by the city just to get the basics back into our brains, and if that goes well, I'll move forward with the big goal.

It could be a disaster. Frankenankle could very well veto this whole idea, as it did before in its pre-fused state. But, if I don't try, I'm a fool. This is the year that my brain shuts up a bit. This is the year I make shit happen.

And, I am VERY lucky to have good friends, family and a truly awesome boyfriend to lend a ton of support and encouragement.

It's been a long time since I felt this good about what I'm trying to do. I'm just gonna go with it, I'd be an idiot not to.
